Band of Vices is pleased to announce its latest exhibition, MASTERPIECE - The Inaugural Show, curated by Melvin A. Marshall, opening this JUNETEENTH (Friday, 19 June 2020).
Artists have been known to look to Art History for inspiration and guidance and these artists have chosen to engage with master artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Eugene Delacroix, Kerry James Marshall, Jasper Johns, Mark Bradford, Gustav Klimt, Rotimi Fani-Kayode, Edouard Manet & Howardena Pindell, among others.
MASTERPIECE is a bold, international, multidisciplinary group exhibition whose aim is to establish a dialogue between contemporary artists of the present and master artists of the past that will illuminate the ever-shifting issues consuming us today such as our volatile geopolitical environment, tackling pandemics & climate change, eradicating racism & social justice reform, and other challenges affecting our increasingly globalized world.
The exhibition features the following 18 contemporary artists: Bryan Lee Tilford, Calvin Clausell Jr., Chelle Barbour, DeShawn Dumas, Eilen Itzel Mena, JTLiss, LaniseHoward, Lyndon Barrois, Sr., Monica Ikegwu, MusaHixson, Olu Seye, Pamela Smith Hudson, Patrick Henry Johnson, Raelis Vasquez, Ricky Day, Sharon Louise Barnes, Talita Long & Victoria Cassinova.
MASTERPIECE is the first exhibition in a new, annual series by Band of Vices.
