BLOOM
FEATURING
CALVIN CLAUSELL JR.
A SOLO EXHIBITION
26 NOVEMBER 2022 - 7 JANUARY 2023
Band of Vices is thrilled to announce Calvin Clausell's first U.S. solo exhibition, BLOOM. Consisting of 8 large format works, Calvin’s creations of oil on wood panels are remarkable.
The Artist reveals: “Bloom is inspired by our connection to, and my love of nature. The parallels of life, aging, shifting and becoming something new all coincides with that of a flower. I wanted to take the time and highlight the simplistic beauty of something outside of myself. To bloom is to grow; it is to find within yourself what helps you and those around you grow. Sometimes that process is painful, but it's always beautiful.”
Since we began working with Calvin a few years ago, he has continuously taken risks and pushed his focus to create an entirely unique narrative. His work has evolved over the past two years and he has arrived at a body of work that is full of motion, energy and light. In the past, there has been a great deal of excitement regarding Calvin's work and we anticipate, with this new series, a strong response.
Calvin has exhibited in two previous group shows with Band of Vices and most recently with Plan X Gallery in Capri, Italy. Last year his work was featured with Jeffrey Deitch at Art Basel Miami. He is in the prestigious collections of Dr. Joy V. Simmons, Beth Rudin DeWoody (The Bunker Museum), Gallerist Carl Kostyál (London and Stockholm), Arsenal Contemporary (Art Foundation of Canada) and Angela Robinson Witherspoon (Director, Betye Saar: Ready to be a Warrior - documentary).
